Almost all types of teaching methods require the teacher to prepare visual aids for the subject that is being taught. Visual aids help students see and understand various concepts that are important to the subject at hand.

There are four popular types of visual aids that teachers use to present concepts to students. Each visual aid has advantages and disadvantages. Here’s a look at two of the popular types of visual aids; flip charts and posters, and videos.

Flip Charts or Posters

Flip charts or posters are typically large poster boards that display the concepts out to the class.

Advantages include:

cost effective. These only require poster board and markers.

Easy to transport from location to location.

Easy to interact with and have students interact with the class.

Disadvantages include:

Not large enough to be seen by large classes or groups of people.

Can be chaotic if not properly done or written so classes can read what is on the board.

Videos

Videos are multimedia presentations of the facts and concepts for the students.

Advantages include:

Extremely professional in appearance.

Easy for students to understand and watch.

Captivating for large groups and students who have problems paying attention.

Disadvantages include:

Extremely expensive and time consuming to create.

Requires special audio visual equipment to show to large groups of people.

Doesn’t encourage students to participate and ask active questions during the presentation.

Despite the advantages and disadvantages, the type of visual aid a teacher uses will depend upon the class and how comfortable the teacher is using that particular type of visual aid.

Earning a degree online is becoming the most popular way to obtain a higher education. Online schools offer the utmost in flexibility, which is ideal for working students and parents. You can complete your school work during your own time, and take classes at any hour of the day. The flexibility of earning an online degree makes this type of schooling seem easier than going to a traditional college. This misconception can hinder your success in an online degree program. Here are a few things to consider before starting online schooling:

The plus side to attending a bricks and mortar school is that you are often held accountable for class attendance. Most online schools don’t require attendance. You have to be willing to complete classwork on your own, which my be difficult if a professor doesn’t hold you accountable.

You must be an expert at time management. The flexibility of online schooling lets you complete your work on your own time. Be careful not to take advantage of this freedom and make sure that you actually get your work finished by all deadlines.

Online schooling is not easier than traditional classes. The fact that you don’t have to commute makes the process physically easier, but you still have to complete the same readings, papers, quizzes and tests.

You may miss out on personal interaction in a traditional classroom. Some online universities create forums for fellow virtual students to interact with one another. Make sure you utilize these tools to minimize any feelings of isolation from attending school on your own.

You shouldn’t make your final selection about where to go to school until you’ve done your research. As you think about where you want to go to college, here are some factors to keep in mind.

Strength of Programs That Interest You

You can narrow your list immediately by only looking at colleges that have nationally recognized programs in the areas of study that interest you. While you may not know what degree you want to earn, if you’re enrolled at a school with several high profile programs that fall within your areas of interest, you’ll have many choices and probably won’t have to transfer once you do choose a major.

Look and Feel of the Campus

While this may be secondary to some other considerations, you do want a college campus that’s easy to navigate. Check out the 50 Most Beautiful College Campuses to discover institutions that place a premium on creating areas where students can relax and study.

Accommodations for Your Learning Style

You want to set yourself up for success. If you enjoy studying different cultures, choose a college with an international focus. If you like putting what you’ve learned to work in the real world, a college with a service learning requirement might be best for you.

Accessible Professors

If you’re struggling in a class, you don’t want to discover at that point that your professor doesn’t keep regular office hours. By connecting with current students at the colleges you want to attend, you can get a feel for the academic culture.

It’s a big decision, choosing the place you’ll live, study, and play for the next four or five years.

Did you know that one of the greatest inventors of our time only had a total of twelve weeks formal school education? Thomas Edison went to school for only twelve weeks, in that time his constant questioning of everything forced the teacher to ask his mother to come and take him away as he was ruining the rest of the class!

His mom, aware that her kid wasn’t “stupid” as the teacher said, decided to home school him and because of that one decision we now enjoy things that we take for granted like the light-bulb and rechargeable batteries! He changed our world, but her decision formed his.

Just think what can be achieved with the right tools for education? Having motivated and gifted teachers working with excited students on projects that they both love and want to see come to fruition.

One of the biggest tools for education is the internet and the whole concept of learning online. We often hear the term nowadays of a “game changer” the concept of online learning re-wrote the rule book even.Students. realize the benefits.

Time was when you had to attend a class in a building. Or be sat by a radio (or TV) to get your lessons, but now all you need is a computer and internet connection and you can study what you want (or need to) when you want , and in the comfort of your own home.

Not everyone is an Edison. But who knows, with the right tools, the right teachers and better methods people have the chance to achieve the potential they always knew they had

Interior design students are a great resource for any business who require a keen artistic eye. Many of the students are close to earning their degrees and just need some work experience. So, what can you do to help an interior design student get the experience they need?

It depends on where the student is studying, as it sometimes varies, but they will likely have several required projects before their portfolio is complete. The best thing for an employer to do is give the student as many different jobs as possible during their time with the company. Be fair with them, though: it can be easy for some to take advantage of their naivety.

Be as patient as you possibly can, keeping in mind that the student is still refining his or her technique. Your main role when working with them is to guide and teach them. Be wary, however, if you will be reselling the areas that are being designed by the student. You may, for example, want to work with a more seasoned professional if you are developing Atlanta apartments for rent.

Let them take photographs of what they are working on with you. This way they can use them in their portfolio.

Although many students are excited simply to be working in the field, they still deserve some compensation for their efforts. The amount paid to them can be decided on your own, or you could talk with them about it. Communication with the student is vital.

School is an important part of every student’s life. Some college students spend years trying to find good schools, good majors, good teachers, and – most of all – good food. For many college students this might be a great time to buy their first car. Here are a few resources that can be great for students.

Of course, every education has a final cost at the end of the day. College education expenses continue to rise and even the students who are taking online classes are feeling the strain from the cost of an education. Car refinancing is a popular way to fund an education. Sometimes this will even allow the student to pay for some additions to their car along with their education.

Checking a cars VIN number can provide insight into where the car has been and how well the car has been taken care of in the past.

Once you have a the VIN, print out a CARFAX report and make sure to double check the mileage on the car to ensure you have an accurate report.

Local papers can also be a great resource for students who are looking for a car. Most colleges and cities have publications, other than the daily paper, that will list different classifieds, movies, music, and of course auto sales that students can browse through. These publications are a great tool for the students who want to plan a great Friday night or who want to find a good deal on a decent car. Most of these publications run weekly and offer many types of articles appropriate for students.

Colleges and Universities must grow and evolve in order to continue serving the needs of their students, faculty and alumni. A good way to gather information for use in making sure any proposed changes are beneficial to everyone concerned is to send out a survey and use the responses as a basis for making improvements.

Using Online Survey Tools

One of the best ways that a college can correspond with students, prospective students and alumni is to use online surveys available on the college website. You can create really short and yet insightful survey questions that students will have no trouble answering that will provide your institution with valuable insight about points for improvement in a wide variety of areas. This is more effective than e-mailing a survey to busy students because they may never read the email or it may go straight to their spam filter.

Keep it Short and Simple

Offering a short and simple survey on the website gives it the best chance to be seen by past, present and future students and if you want responses fast, this is the way to do it. E-mailing a survey may net longer and more thought-out answers, but from fewer students, which is not necessarily a better route to pursue. Online surveys make it possible to get feedback on potential solutions for campus issues, information about needed classes or class improvements and other suggestions for campus operations. The best way to determine if the campus is meeting the needs of the students is to ask them–and you can use an online survey to do that.

College is incredibly expensive, even the prerequisites cost tens of thousands. Higher education is necessary to make a good living these days, especially with so many people out of work. When things pick up again people want to be ready to work.

Thankfully, there’s some tax news to encourage people to take an extra few years to get the highest degree possible. One incentive is designed to make it easier for parents with grown kids in school and those who are trying to pay back student loans with low interest.
There’s the Hope and Lifetime Learning Credit that people can make a claim to for tuition and other expenditures while the students in the family are enrolled in colleges. There are a variety of levels; the Hope Scholarship Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit. There are certain rules that need adhering to, but it can be easily done.
Many can qualify to claim a tax deduction of $4,000 for education expenses paid during the school year for the student, spouse, or dependent. However, certain tax filing status rules apply; for example, if someone files married, files separately or if someone else can claim the person as a dependent, then they are not eligible for this deduction.
Interest on student loans is low, but still, a student may be able to deduct it. Also if the student loan is canceled, the deduction is claimed as an adjustment to income and doesn’t need to be claimed as income or itemized on the tax return.
The incentives are there for the taking, and in this financial climate it’s best to take all the advantages and opportunities available.

College enrollment advertisements have changed dramatically. Now instead of getting a laptop, students are given iPads. Is this really a good thing? Some do not believe that it is.

There are inherent differences between a laptop and an iPad that make them both extremely useful for different tasks. If you are a student who needs to do a lot of writing or statistical analysis—for example—a laptop is much more useful than an iPad.

Lacking in Basic Functionality

Apps are NOT programs. An iPad runs apps, not programs. What many students utilize (even though they may not even be aware of it) is the multi-tasking capability offered by a laptop. There are only a few apps that allow for this multi-tasking capability; and even those are limiting for a student. This also reduces a student’s ability to utilize social networking while working on a paper or studying.

Seriously? No Flash? Nope—No Flash. There are countless lists and reasons why Mr. Jobs did not create the iPad to support Flash, but with the extensive number of websites utilizing it, a surfer will get extremely frustrated and a very short amount of time.

It worked better on the MacBook. They are certainly trying to modify existing Macintosh programs on an iPad, but these versions pale in comparison to the original versions. Perhaps it will get there eventually, but for now, you get what you get.

This is but a small list of reasons why you should keep your laptop. Although no one says you can’t have both.
